About
INNERSPEAR is a new project by Sean Perrin that explores a wide range of styles and musical emotions, with a current focus on the dystopian state we find our society.
INNERSPEAR’s lyrical content is always grounded in real events, but the true meaning of the words is often shrouded by Perrin’s love for abstraction, musical aleatory, and a strong belief that listeners give music their own meaning. The songs feature carefully crafted lyrics and melodies that take full advantage of Perrin's wide vocal range, contrasted with percussive guitar playing, etherial synths, and unapologetic bass and drums. Fans of Radiohead, Talk Talk, Matthew Good Band, Sigur Ros, Tame Impala, and Portishead will find themselves right at home. Listen at www.innerspear.com About SEAN PERRIN Sean Perrin is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music educator, and podcaster born, raised, educated, and currently residing in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Music Performance Degree from the University of Calgary, where he studied clarinet performance with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra’s Principal Clarinetist, Steve Amsel. He has been an active performer, educator, adjudicator, and recording artist in the Alberta music scene for over 20 years. As a performer, Sean has performed and recorded with The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Bow Valley Chorus, Red Deer Symphony, University of Calgary Wind Ensemble, and has appeared on-stage with popular music acts including Shania Twain, Keith Urban, Diana Krall, and Brett Kissel. In 2015 he recorded his debut solo album, funded by AFA and Jazz YYC, called “Dreamsongs,” which reached number 5 on the iTunes Canadian Jazz charts. The CD release concert was streamed online well before this was the norm, with paid audience members tuning in from as far away as Spain and New Zealand. Education and outreach performance efforts from the project impacted thousands of students for the next eight years at Mount Royal University, and the Vic Lewis Music Festival. The Clarinet Magazine reviewed the album and said: “The album is well-constructed from the engineering and production to the arrangement of the individual pieces. [The] performance is simple, beautiful, and expressive, with the timbres of the clarinet and marimba melding perfectly.” As a podcaster, Sean has reached over 500,000 people in over 200 interviews as host of the “Clarineat Podcast” and “OK Podcast: The Radiohead Podcast” internet radio shows. Featured guests include Clive Deamer (Radiohead, Led Zepplin, Portishead, Glenn Beck), Evelyn Glennie (London Symphony, Bjork), Steve Hamilton (Oasis, Radiohead and others) and numerous clarinetists including Martin Fröst, Doreen Ketchens, Lori Freedman, Stanley Drucker, Michael Lowenstern, Corrado Giuffredi, Eddie Daniels, and many more. Corporate sponsors for the podcasts have included D’Addario Woodwinds, Boveda, Backun Musical Services, Légére Reeds, and more. After a severe hand injury in 2016, becoming a father (twice), and experiencing the isolation of the pandemic first hand, Sean turned to songwriting as an outlet for his musical expression, and has since composed nearly 20 songs. He made his live debut in June 2023, and released his first self-produced single on Spotify called “Greener Grass” in December 2023. His second single, “Million Miles Away,” will be released in March 2024.
