About
The Jesse Dietschi Trio play on a sliding scale between modern jazz and contemporary classical music, constantly adjusting their position as they navigate compositions that balance the two styles.
The Jesse Dietschi Trio strives to bring together elements of both modern jazz and contemporary classical chamber music using original compositions to balance both improvisation and contemporary classical textures. Listeners can expect to hear cinematic stories without words, with both the intricacies of carefully crafted scenes with the excitement and energy of spontaneous creation. Leader, bassist, and composer Jesse Dietschi has been called a “virtuoso” by DownBeat Magazine, and a “musical contrabassist” by The WholeNote. He is an active freelance jazz upright and electric bassist and performs regularly as an extra section bassist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Canadian Opera Company, and Mirvish musical theatre productions. The influences of these varying styles can be heard on the trio’s debut album, Gradient, which was released in the fall of 2023 to great critical acclaim, including a 3 1⁄2 star review in the December 2023 edition of DownBeat Magazine.
