The bass playing- singing- front person in this band was in a ‘stray cats’ style band for over 12 years. During that time they wrote a lot of songs, but some fell through the cracks for that project because they required more than 3 chords and themes that weren’t chick cars and murder. Inspired by people like the stray cats and KD lang who branched into other genres after a solid career in rockabilly, the decision was made to pursue a lineup of musicians who could evolve these misfit songs into a cohesive project with influences from early rock, folk, country and a bit of torch to light it all up. A pepper-box is an old timey pistol where four (or more) different barrels could fire independently. It seemed an apt name for this group.
