Take Nine is a nine-piece jazz ensemble from the University of Calgary, featuring Anjie Corpuz (saxophone), Emily Holowka (trumpet), Nancy Partlow (trombone), Izy Montanez (drums), Zach Oberhamer (piano), Elijah Chambers (guitar), Gino Mania (electric bass), and vocalists Cormac McVean and Kyla Lomocso. As emerging artists, we explore a wide spectrum of jazz styles—from swing and bossa nova to contemporary vocal jazz—drawing on music by Lee Morgan, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Joni Mitchell, and more. Our performances focus on strong ensemble playing, thoughtful arrangements, and the spontaneity at the heart of jazz.
