Sweaty palms, beat red bliss, broken strings & an electric kiss. This is no nonsense rock with a passion vs fashion approach to the genre. If you dig riff driven guitars and smiling, look no further.
Crooked Spies, a four-piece rock band hailing from Calgary, AB with a pretty simple philosophy that reigns true through almost all aspects of their being. Write music that is true to itself and have fun doing what you love. This has never been more evident in their current arrangement with brother's Dylan and Steven Evanik fronting the no nonsense rock show. Influenced heavily by the garage rock revival, they adhere to a raw & natural, "passion vs. fashion" approach to the art form having been compared to acts such as The Raconteurs, The Dirty Nil and Danzig. Their most recent full length release High plains is a strong representation of the visceral nature of their live act. Mike Bell of the yyscene describes the album as “A gnarly, almost belligerently cool slab of stoner rock, muscled up pop punk and the 90’s mostly metal of acts like Masters of Reality, Rollins Band, Fluf and Danzig, the latter a common comparison for Crooked Spies due to Evaniks guttural man sized growl.” With a busy last year including opening slots for Danko Jones and Grandson, Crooked Spies have their sites set on the continued progression of a diminishing genre they hold dear in their hearts. If you dig heavy riff driven guitars and smiling then look no further.
