Lorna MacLachlan is a local composer and pianist. She has studied composition and performance anh holds a graduate degree in Composition. During her she became very interested in combining the structures in “Art music” with Electronic music and melding this with the freedom of improvisation. She has studied with Canadian composers and pianists: David Braid, Don Thompson, Phil Dwyer, Hugh Fraser and more. Her music is the combination of all that she has been exposed to including classical form, folk music, choral music and contemporary Jazz. This has been recorded over 30 years on 6 CDs. The Lorna MacLachlan Quintet is made up of some of Calgary’s finest Jazz performers: Jon McCaslin (drums), Richard Harding (saxophones), David Lavoie (trumpet/flugelhorn), Jeremy Coates(bass) and Lorna on piano and vocals. These amazing and dedicated musicians bring Lorna’s compositions and arrangements from the page to life.
