About the artist
“Modern Canadian troubadour Esra Cash stands on the shoulders of Canada's great musical story tellers to bring you songs about life and death and love and fear from a Canada perspective.”
Esra Cash, a versatile musician, has a fascinating journey through various musical landscapes. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, he has experienced life in diverse places, including Berkley, California; East Lansing, Michigan; Cranfield, England; Winnipeg, Manitoba; and Montreal, Quebec. Currently, he resides in Southern Alberta, nestled between the grandeur of the Rockies and the vast blue skies of the Canadian prairies on Crocus Ridge. Esra's musical odyssey began with drumming in the 70s British punk scene. Over time, he transitioned to Canadian folk guitar and explored free jazz. His artistic evolution led him to blend sounds and textures, culminating in his current project, Esra Cash. Esra's music is a captivating fusion of emotions—glorious, brutal, hopeful, gentle, and loving—inviting listeners into his rich world of human experience. Esra Cash entertains with his acoustic guitar and voice, playing the songs of great Canadians such as Bruce Cockburn, Connie Kaldor, Danny Michel, Fred Eaglesmith, and Gordon Lightfoot, along with classics from Amos Lee, George Ezra, Eric Clapton, George Strait, John Mayer, John Prine, Josh Ritter, Mayer Hawthorne, and others. Esra’s own songs reflect the honest take it or leave it attitude of the legendary Johnny Cash. Esra speaks to the arc of our lives and the moments in them that provide meaning and perspective. His songs capture not only the beauty and spirituality of life but also the humour and foibles of the human condition
