About the artist
“Experience the combination of Swing, Bebop, Funk, and Soul music in the music of Joel Warren and his Quintet.”
One day presenting original research at a conference to the next day performing the Hummel Trumpet Concerto, this is the life of Joel Warren. Joel’s whole life has revolved around music. He started playing guitar at age four, trumpet at age twelve, and has been seeking to understand history his whole life. Joel has had the privilege to study with trumpet greats such as Jim Murray, André Wickenheiser, and Adam Zinatelli; his research focus is on reception studies, specifically how and why audiences respond to music in a certain manner. Joel is currently attending Ambrose University where in May 2026 he is expected to graduate with a Bachelor of Music: Professional Music. Joel’s experience is unique in the aspect that it combines musical performance with teaching and researching. His performance experiences of being the lead trumpet in the JazzYYC Lab Band, the associate-principal trumpet with the Foothills Philharmonic Orchestra, and most recently being the winner of the 2025 Edwin Gnandt Concerto Competition is compounded with his academic and teaching experience of presenting original research on audience reception of requiem masses at the Ambrose Research Conference in Spring 2025, leading the First Alliance Church Orchestra as its conductor and director, and teaching many guitar, bass, mandolin, and trumpet students at Musicworks Canada, Eden School of Music, and privately, attesting to both his skill and talent as a performer and music educator.
